Do you spend time during the holidays participating in traditions and celebrating with loved ones near and far?
The end of the year, especially the end of a COVID year, calls for reflection. We at the Haven Hospice Foundation reflect on memories made, milestones that occurred and the special people we spent our days with. We think of those that supported us through good and bad days, from friends, family members to healthcare providers and sometimes even strangers. In this spirit of reflection, we want to share Robin’s story with you.
Robin Politowicz was her mother’s primary caregiver. Diagnosed with dementia, her mother Gladys began to face physical and mental challenges. Haven first provided care for Gladys in her memory care facility and then at Haven’s E.T. York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville when her condition worsened. Robin said the support Haven provided for her and her mother made all the difference as her mother neared the end of life.
“It was honestly a huge mental relief for me to know that someone reached out to me about her care and was thinking about her and her whole situation. Then when she was transferred to Haven, I was so comforted by the great care that she got and the 24-hour medical eyes on her that resulted in as peaceful a transition as possible. At many times I felt very alone as a caregiver. As soon as her care transitioned to Haven Hospice, I wasn’t alone anymore. I felt like I had an entire network of compassionate people who could help me make the right decisions and who could inform me about her care. It felt like a big hug that I hadn’t gotten from the rest of the world in a very long time.”
The high-quality care and big hug that Robin and Gladys received is the same care extended to all Haven patients and families across Haven’s service area. Haven associates are proud to support patients and families through challenging seasons. I ask you to please consider making a gift to the Haven Hospice Foundation in support of Haven caregivers so that they can continue to provide comfort, care and compassion to every patient and family served. To show appreciation for your gift of $100 or more, you will receive the 2021 Light up a Life ornament.
Please consider writing an inscription on the enclosed paper candle memorial tag and return it to Haven to hang on the holiday tree in honor or memory of your loved one or a caregiver. We will place the candle on the tree in the care center of your choice. Be sure to spread joy this season and reflect on those who have supported you through the year.
