Haven recently dedicated an area in the E.T. York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville as a space to honor veterans and first responders. The “We Honor Heroes” space– funded by the Thomas A. Plein Foundation— includes a curio cabinet with memorabilia, an American flag, a writing desk and chair and a framed custom quilt created and donated by a local student.

The memorabilia inside the curio cabinet recognizes all military branches; also present are the materials that Haven veteran and first responders are given in recognition ceremonies.

“Haven is very grateful to the Thomas A. Plein Foundation for its generous gift in support of the We Honor Heroes program,” said Haven’s Vice President of Development Sharon Jones. “This area of the care center is specifically designated for veterans and first responders and is available to all patients and families. The decor and memorabilia in the area will provide a glimpse into the history of our honored and valued veterans and first responders.”

If you are visiting the E.T. York Care Center, Haven encourages you to visit the “We Honor Heroes” area by the stairs. There is a notebook present in which you can honor a loved one who served our country.
