Haven celebrated National Hospice and Palliative Care Month at the Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center in Lake City this week with an inspirational message from Representative Chuck Brannan from Florida’s House of Representatives. The celebration also included tours of Haven’s hospice care center. Haven associates in attendance were joined by healthcare partners and Haven Community Advisory Board members.

Representative Brannan spoke about the history of hospice care and shared his personal experience with Haven Hospice.

Simple things like assisting with a bath makes all the difference in preserving the patient’s dignity while allowing the family to still be able to spend time together, giving the family respite and peace of mind that their loved ones are getting the care that they need,” said Representative Brannan.

“Hospice allows us to kiss our loved ones good night and kiss them good morning in their final days and hours while preserving their dignity. It’s amazing what you do. You all do God’s work,” Representative Brannan said to Haven associates in the room. “This noble work deserves our recognition and praise as we celebrate November as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month.”

National Hospice and Palliative Care Month is celebrated annually in the United States to raise awareness about hospice and palliative care. The national campaign promotes awareness that hospice is high-quality care that enables patients and their families to live fully despite life-limiting illness.
